We will use recreational kayaks to explore the wetlands and shorelines of Shelburne Bay and the LaPlatte River Marsh, as well as take a few short walks into the surrounding forests. Learn first-hand about the ecology and geology of this ecosystem, and wonderful diversity of plants and animals found here. Herons, osprey, beavers, turtles, coyotes, and deer are a few of the inhabitants, which may be seen. Kayaks and equipment are provided, basic paddling experience is required. Wander through the wilds of South Burlington and discover the great variety of edible and usable plants that exist in our very midst. We will learn how to identify many common and some not so common plants, trees, and flowers, and find out some of their uses as food sources, fibers, and medicinals. Come out for an autumn walk and sample some of what nature’s store has to offer.
